Bahia Honda State Park

Anglers can fish from shore or bring a boat and launch at the boat ramp. Kayaks and snorkeling gear can be rented. Boat trips to the reef for a snorkeling excursion are available. Bahia Honda is an excellent place to see wading birds and shorebirds. The nature center introduces nature lovers to the island's plants and animals. Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park

Visitors come to the park to sunbathe, swim and picnic on more than one mile of sandy Atlantic beachfront. Biking and kayaking are popular activities. Anglers can throw in their lines from the seawall along Biscayne Bay for some of the best shoreline fishing in the region. Guided tours of the lighthouse and lighthouse keeper´s cottage are given twice daily, Thursdays through Mondays.  Read more



Caladesi Island State ParkDunedin FL 34698

Caladesi Island State Park is one of the few remaining undeveloped barrier islands in the state. The park comprises a total of 650 upland acres and more than 1800 acres of surrounding mangroves and grass flats. In addition to over 3 miles of sandy beach and a 3-mile nature trail, fragile beach dunes, maritime hammock, and mangrove forest are all found at Caladesi Island.   Read more



Cayo Costa State ParkBoca Grande, Florida 33921

Cayo Costa ("key by the coast") is one of the largest underdeveloped barrier islands remaining in Florida. It is located twelve miles west of Cape Coral in Lee County, and is part of a chain of barrier islands that shelter Charlotte Harbor and Pine Island Sound. The island contains unique tropical vegetation, and looks much as it did 500 years ago when the first Europeans arrived. Read more

The island is accessible only by private boat or park ferry. Evidence of Native American habitation over thousands of years can be witnessed as visitors hike through the park. Canoeing and kayaking through the park’s waters are popular activities; fishing is permitted in designated areas. Visitors can enjoy walking on short trails, picnicking, or swimming at the beach. The Visitor Center has a 30,000-gallon saltwater aquarium and nature videos are shown in its theater. Full-facility and Youth/Group campsites are available. Bald Point State Park

Each fall, bald eagles and other migrating raptors along with monarch butterflies are commonly seen heading south for the winter. Bald Point offers access to two Apalachee Bay beaches for swimming, sunbathing, fishing, canoeing, kayaking and windsurfing. Facilities include a fishing dock and picnic pavilions. Read more

The Blackwater River is considered one of the purest sand-bottom rivers in the world. The river's sand-bottom, dark tannin water, and contrasting large white sandbars have drawn worldwide attention, and provide the perfect setting for this 590-acre park. Big Shoals State Park

Over 28 miles of wooded trails provide opportunities for hiking, biking, horseback riding and wildlife viewing. Visitors who wish to view the Big Shoals rapids should park at the Big Shoals parking area and hike approximately 1 mile on the Big Shoals hiking trail (Yellow Blaze trail).  There is no vehicle access to the Big Shoals or Little Shoals rapids. Read more
