Driving Directions
Fort George Island Cultural State Park lies approximately
16 miles east of downtown Jacksonville on S.R.
A1A, or three miles south of Little Talbot Island
State Park.
Hours of Operation
Florida state parks are open from 8 a.m. until
sundown 365 days a year.
There is not an entrance fee for this park.
Whether you walk, bike or drive on Fort George Island you will find yourself surrounded by lush vegetation. Hidden by this green mantle is evidence of 6000 years of human occupation, ranging from shell mounds, through plantation era structures, to a 1920's resort club. The history of Ft. George Island is a cross section of Florida's history. Present day use of the island is mostly recreational. There are miles of trails for biking or hiking. There are several locations for the shore-bound angler to wet a line. Depending on the season bird watching ranges from quite good to excellent, with the Rollins Bird Sanctuary occupying most of one end of the island. There is also a self-guided tour around the island known as the Saturiwa Trail, which can be followed after obtaining a guidebook at the Ribault Clubhouse on Ft George or the ranger station on Little Talbot. There are no fees charged on Ft. George Island. For overnight accommodations you will need to go to Little Talbot Island State Park. We continue to upgrade facilities and expand recreational opportunities at Ft. George Cultural Site.
Alcoholic beverages are not permitted in Florida State Parks. Please place all trash in its proper place and do not feed the wildlife.

Boat Ramp
The Ribault Clubhouse Water access, (unimproved
boat ramp) behind the Ribault Clubhouse, is available
for launching canoes, kayaks, and small flat bottom
boats.
Fishing
Fishing the Fort George river from the shoreline
is a popular activity.
There is a four-mile hiking/biking trail on Fort George Island. The trail runs through the interior of the former Fort George Golf course. A successional process is returning the golf course land back to its natural state and restoring the maritime forest habitat. The trail is suitable for large tired bikes.
