Caladesi Island State Park is one of the few remaining undeveloped barrier islands in the state. The park comprises a total of 650 upland acres and more than 1800 acres of surrounding mangroves and grass flats. In addition to over 3 miles of sandy beach and a 3-mile nature trail, fragile beach dunes, maritime hammock, and mangrove forest are all found at Caladesi Island.   Read more

Camp Helen is bordered by the Gulf of Mexico on three sides, and by Lake Powell, one of the largest coastal dune lakes in Florida. Prehistoric middens and mounds indicate that humans inhabited the area more than 4,000 years ago. From 1945 until 1987 Camp Helen was a company resort for the employees of an Alabama textile mill.    Read more

Cayo Costa ("key by the coast") is one of the largest underdeveloped barrier islands remaining in Florida. It is located twelve miles west of Cape Coral in Lee County, and is part of a chain of barrier islands that shelter Charlotte Harbor and Pine Island Sound. The island contains unique tropical vegetation, and looks much as it did 500 years ago when the first Europeans arrived. Read more

Picturesque Cedar Key, on Florida's Gulf Coast, was a thriving port city and railroad connection during the 19th century. The museum contains exhibits that depict its colorful history during that era. Part of the collection has sea shells and Indian artifacts collected by Saint Clair Whitman, the founder of the first museum in Cedar Key. Whitman's house is located at the park and has been restored to reflect life in the 1920s.  Read more

Hikers and off-road bicyclists who want to experience a mosaic of Florida habitats will find it on the miles of trails that wind through the park. The shallow waters and numerous creeks near the salt marshes are ideal for canoeing and kayaking. Rental canoes and kayaks are available in the city of Cedar Key.   Read more

Reservations are highly recommended from November through March. Camping from June through Sept. may be accompanied by biting insects and afternoon rains. Hiking & mountain bike trails are subject to flooding from June to November. Call ahead for conditions. A saltwater fishing license can be purchased at bait and tackle shops, and is required for fishing in the Blackwater River.  Read more

The park is currently equipped with a lime rock entrance road, grass parking area, wheelchair accessible restroom, informational kiosk, picnic pavilion and several picnic tables and grills. Visitors are invited to fish, picnic and hike or ride their horses on over 12 miles of trails and enjoy nature study at its finest. Read more

Visitors can take a self-guided tour through displays and exhibits of the era. A replicated convention hall takes visitors into the debate of delegates Robert Raymond Reid, William P. Duvall, David Y. Levy and Thomas L Baltzell. These life-size, audio-animated mannequins bring a realistic demonstration of the debate and process of drafting a state constitution.   Read more
